At the American Egg Board (AEB), we're committed to staying closely connected to consumer sentiment and understanding how current challenges, like bird flu, are impacting perceptions and behaviors. We continuously gather insights to inform our strategies and better serve our partners. Here are some of the latest findings from our recent consumer pulse survey:
Eggs continue to be a trusted and essential part of the American diet, with 82% of consumers maintaining a positive view and 76% expressing confidence in their safety. While 88% of consumers have noticed price increases, the strong favorability and trust in eggs reflect their enduring value despite the challenges.
Over half of consumers (52%) have expressed that no matter what happens with prices, they will always buy eggs. This highlights that eggs are more important than ever to Americans. A dozen eggs is a pound and a half of one of the highest-quality, most nutritious, and versatile proteins in the store.
Although many consumers are aware of the bird flu situation, they still need more clarity and understanding. AEB has resources to help provide that clarity — check them out here.

Trust in farmers is strong, with 70% of consumers trusting farmers to ensure eggs flow to stores during the bird flu crisis. This trust is vital as the industry works tirelessly to protect flocks and maintain a stable egg supply.
Consumers turn to social media to stay informed, but when it comes to credibility, they prefer to hear from trusted experts. The USDA (59%), FDA (57%), and farmers (45%) top the list of trusted voices, followed by scientists (43%). AEB is working to provide credible information to consumers from these sources.
While some consumers may be adjusting how they use eggs, they are not abandoning them. To help you communicate with your consumers about eggs, AEB has put together a social media toolkit, complete with ready-to-use social posts.
The demand for more information about food safety and solutions for bird flu is clear. As always, AEB is proactive in responding to these questions and ensuring that consumers have access to the facts they need. To provide consumers with more information about the value of eggs and the safety measures in place, AEB created this page.
These findings highlight the resilience and loyalty consumers have toward eggs despite the challenges we face. At AEB, we remain committed to providing transparency, answering consumers' questions, and ensuring consumers know about the high-quality, nutritious protein powerhouse hidden inside each carton.
We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work through these challenges. Together, we'll continue to ensure eggs remain a reliable, nutritious option for consumers.
