Last month, IGA shoppers flocked to stores and social media for a chance to win a Traeger Grill valued at $1,000 during the Summer Grill Giveaway. Sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, Pictsweet, Go Grassfed, and Southern Recipe Pork Rinds, the giveaway asked shoppers to incorporate the hashtag #IGAGrillGiveaway in a post on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and gave independent grocers the opportunity to recapture shoppers' summer dollars that would otherwise be directed to dining out.
It was a roaring success, driving over 3.7 million impressions, earning 491,154 entries, and 322,341 website visits. In fact, this year's campaign saw a 457% increase in entries and 186% increase in views compared to the 2022 campaign!
Through this sweepstakes and an in-store emphasis on grilling, participating IGA retailers positioned themselves as key players in fostering memorable culinary experiences to gain revenue that once flowed into the restaurant industry. The omni-channel marketing campaign, created for retailers to boost sales, provided content to retailers to promote on social media while delivering advertisements via the National Digital Ad to attract shoppers.
The campaign highlighted the summer grilling occasion and Traeger grill giveaway through the National Digital Ad, retailer-facing website story and emails, Recipe Club email, in-store POS, influencer recipe and posts.
To help further the message, IGA enlisted the help of influencer Meghann Featherstun of Featherstone Nutrition. She is a mother of two, registered dietitian and certified specialist in sports dietetics who specializes in helping athletes find their own balance between nutrition, life, and fitness goals. She has her own cookbook and loves finding the balance of delicious and nutritious.
Featherstun created the following recipes incorporating IGA-brand condiments, Coca-Cola and grass-fed beef — all while promoting the Summer Grill Giveaway on her own social media channels.
